We’ve been meaning to put together a video about our own personal mobile internet setup for our RVing and cruising lifestyle for a while now – and CheapRVLiving’s recent ‘Super Cheap Internet Update’ was a perfect poke!

In that video, jimindenver shared his current super cheap unlimited data plans on each of the four major carriers – Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

In our video we go over the ‘gotchas’ of each of the plans Jim Barnaby and Bob Wells shared, and then share the plans we personally utilize for both our RVing and cruising (some are the same!).

For a full tour of our personal mobile internet setup (including the gear we use):

All and all, we’re paying $133/month for pretty much unlimited data on all four carriers for the plans we personally utilize.

Verizon Legacy Unlimited (no throttling!) – $45/mo
AT&T Unlimited Plus Hotspot – $20/mo
T-Mobile Simple Choice – $35/mo
Sprint / Calyx Non Profit Plan – $33/mo

However, since some of our plans are retired now – we also share the current best options out there. And this doesn’t include our smartphone plans, or plans we constantly have in our testing setup for our work at MobileInternetInfo.com.

We track Mobile Internet options for RVers and Cruisers as our day job, and offer a ton of free resources for educating you on your options.

You guys are totally accurate – I personally know of several people, including myself, who are having difficulties with TMobile incorrectly counting Binge On listed appls as high speed data. This has been happening as early as (or not earlier) November 2016 and STILL happening. Tech support is of NO HELP.

what about straight talks $55 unlimited? with a galaxy s7 as a hot spot?

  • XJLCA 28 / 05 / 2018 Reply

What are you guys talking about? Both Netflix and Amazon prime work in Canada, in fact you get quite a few extras shows in Canadian version of Netflix that you don’t get in the US version. Even if you have to stick with the US version of Netflix you can easily buy a cheap VPN and access US version of Netflix. So the five dollar plan is a good deal!

We've had a lot of problems with T-Mobile here in the Southwest. In fact, we've had to call tech support 7-8 times since starting service with them in mid-February. Our reception for data and streaming just grinds to a halt on both the Alcatel mobile hotspot and IPhone personal hotspot. Over the Memorial Day weekend, in a packed campground, we had no Internet connection at all. Now that the park has cleared we can get online with the mobile hotspot (even better if we take our computer outside), but tethering with a USB cable to our "unlimited" Iphone is still slow inside or out and if we get video streaming at all it appears to be SD. I'm about to call (again) and see what tech support can do. Tired of watching the ball spin.

Could you post a link to the $100/100gb at&t plan? I'm not seeing it on your site or on the company website.

Hi guys. I've been following your blog for quite some time and you have the best Internet advise out there. I would like to feature your blog post on my website at this URL: http://www.tinylifeconsulting.com Would you be willing to do a guest blog or a short paragraph that we could build a page around?

Wow… This is great information. So then Callingmart at Callingmart.com is one of the places thats not being real honest about the way they make up their 5 dollar unlimited plans? I was going to go with them but I don't think I will now. At the moment I have Verizon Wireless Jetpack 4G-LTE and a 10 gig plan. It's pay as you go, $100.00 per month. I sure like the five dollar plans everyone was talking about but now after all of this, I think I'll stick with verizon. Thanks for all the great info here…

Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

I just got off the phone with Sprint and upgraded to their 55+ plan. I now pay exactly what I was paying per month but instead of getting 10GB a month on LTE and being throttled back to an unusable 2G, I am now at 10GB LTE then back to a very usable 3G unlimited Hot Spot. Now I can watch unlimited Youtube on all my devices.

I know you’re not fans of Sprint but I’ve been with them for years and my daughter with ATT gets nothing but dropouts and grief which I never do. May be different in Quartzite but I can always grab a coffee at Starbucks if I really need to send some lg. files.

Happy I watched your video and made the upgrade. When (if) T-Mobile and Sprint merge, I think I’ll be just that much more connected.

Why are you telling us about the Verizon grandfather plan when we obviously can't use it unless we already have the plan? If we had it, we'd know about it already, and the rest of us are SOL…smh.

I was just in the at&t store trying to get my tablet hooked up for 22 gs they don't offer that on it's own on pre-paid or post-paid.

I bought the 4G Verizon device at $274 and it arrived today…. after buying this on Ebay a day later I read something from Technomadia that I would have trouble with Amazon and Netflix videos since this person is running the service through Canada. Sure enough they were right. It does YouTube videos and CurisosityStream videos but not Netflix and Amazon. Correction…. however it's not working very well with one, two bars average. I'm in the middle of New York City and when i put my 3G device next to it, the 3G shows 5 bars. It's been returned.

I'll add my 0.02 to this. Instead of having all these devices just activate the sim card, USB card, or phone… throw it into a cradle point… Done.

I have 3 Verizon Legacy unlimited with no throttling that I may be giving up. Family member works with AT&T and we may switch. I've been told to not just give them up, they are too valuable, is this true, what are they worth?

Thank you for this video. Fantastic information as usual. I have never heard you talk about business plans. I am on a business plan with my boss at work. (Small company) I only pay $30 a month for unlimited everything, it is not throttled and it is fast. Not to mention the customer support is all in the USA for the business customers. I am not sure what this would be just for one person. I am looking into it for when I go full time.

seems like you guys are no longer the authority. I listen to your videos and it's just a lot of talking and I never get any good ideas… just unboxing with no details of usage. You'd think I'd get good info being you claim to be the authority. I have a family plan on tmobile so it's 35 a month for a sim card I put in a mobile hotspot. you haven't even discussed the mofinetworks router that has a lan conneciton on it so you can have wired devices. you don't even mentioned that weboost is just rebranded wilson marked up in price. I seriously do not recognize you guys as an authority
