The Affair explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together. Season four finds Noah (West), Helen (Tierney), Alison (Wilson) and Cole (Jackson) in their own orbits, alienated from each other, spinning further and further away from where they all began. Every character is involved in a new relationship, forcing them each to decide if they’re ready and willing to leave the past behind for good – with a season about new beginnings, tragic ends and the ever-elusive possibility of forgiveness. Sanaa Lathan joins season four as Janelle, the tough-as-nails principal of the charter school where Noah teaches. Ramon Rodriguez guest stars as Ben, a Marine veteran now employed by the VHA and Alison’s new love interest. Additional season four guest stars include Russell Hornsby (Grimm), Christopher Meyer (The Fosters), Amy Irving (Yentl) and Phoebe Tonkin (The Vampire Diaries). Writers Guild Award-winning playwright and writer/producer Sarah Treem (House of Cards, In Treatment) and Hagai Levi (In Treatment) created the series. Treem, also the showrunner, and Levi serve as executive producers. Jessica Rhoades is an executive producer on season four.

So sad the way Cole asks Noah to do the identifying, he can't bear to do it himself. They did a great job with this episode. Heartbreaking!

Brilliant acting from both but especially Joshua Jackson. Being so distraught and shocked over Allison’s death that he faints and then pukes

I’m pissed at showtime for not paying her what she was worth. Double standards

I wonder what Cole's reaction is going to be when Noah tells him Scotty tried to attack Allison and she shoved him into the street where his SUV driven by Helen killed him? Noah was drunk but Helen was also not sober and had a prior DUI conviction. If Noah didn't go to prison Helen could have been sentenced instead just for operating a vehicle intoxicated add to that Cole's greedy family (lead by his mother) would have filed Civil damage claims against Helen's family fortune via Bruce Butler which would ultimately have been his children's inheritance. Noah basically admitting to a crime he did not do protected Helen from going to prison, potentially Allison as well and the futures of his children (financially) and including Joanie (growing up with her birth mother). Not to mention Allison had just told him Joanie was not his daughter and it looked like he was leaning towards a one night stand with Helen and possible reconciliation of their relationship. And Noah had no choice but to lie he had committed the murder because the Investigator Jeffries had flipped the Auto Shop Owner (who had cheated on his taxes) as a witness and his bff Max was already pissed off at him but was not going to perjure himself so he admitted he saw Noah late at night drive over to his mansion and wash off puddles of blood from his SUV (the same one that killed Scotty). I'm pretty sure there was an episode earlier this season where Noah leaves a voicemail for Max so maybe they reconciled despite him fucking Helen when they were separated and paying Noah off a 10k cheque (you don't need to pay me back) like a pimp which he never cashed in when he rejected Oscar Hodges' threats to out his affair to Helen and the Butlers.

Joshua Jackson absolutely killed this episode. He made her death so much more real and heartbreaking every single emotion I felt what Cole was feeling. Wish people would appreciate his talent more. I’ve never been so heartbroken after witnessing a performance. Emmy worthy
